Swavesey Music School was founded in 2009 by Audrey Caldwell, former Director of Music at Swavesey Village College. The intention was to enable students to ‘speak the language of music’ as they started out in life.
Swavesey Music School aims to provide students of all ages and abilities with the opportunity to learn the language of music and use it appropriately. By learning in an environment conducive to music making, pupils become comfortable with using a language that will last a lifetime whether they become professional musicians or lifelong amateur enthusiasts.
Learn to speak the language of music
Open the lungs, open the ears and let the spirit soar
The Big Sing for those aged 7 to 77 years 10.15 am to 11.00 am
An excellent way of combining the reading and use of music theory.
This is for students aged 7+.
Students in ‘Big Sing’ sessions, will develop their singing and listening skills, through unision and part singing. They will experience many styles of music which are designed to open the lungs are ears, and let the spirit soar. This provides an opportunity for developing ensemble skills which are vital for any aspiring musician.
Music Theory 09.30 am to 10.15 am
The basics that make up the musical language – staves, clefs, sharps, flats and note values and all the symbols peculiar to music.
By mixing the theory and lively interactions and listening to theory at work, pupils will be able to create their own tunes from an early stage, building steadily on their musical vocabulary. Classes are arranged in increasing levels of difficulty, catering for all ability levels.
The Big Orchestra 11:00 to 12:00 pm
This starts at 11:00 and is a welcoming and inclusive group for orchestral instrumentalists. We currently have members from beginners to advanced standard. This group has an enthusiastic number of adult instrumentalists of all abilities playing along with our younger members
Joining together with other musicians to produce a performance is rewarding and exciting at all levels, a time when the sum is greater than its constituent parts. The repertoire ranges from classical to popular music.

Rock School Session I
The first session of the morning 10.00 to 10.55 am
Each week builds up the confidence and skills needed to play in a band format.
The aim is to work as a group and develop together, covering such things as:
• Being comfortable on your instrument
• Communicating with band members
• Playing with other musicians
• How to play as an ensemble to an audience
So, whether it is guitar, bass, keyboard, drums or singing, students will be prepared towards the next level of Rocking out!
Rock school Session II
second Rock School session 11.05 am to 12.00 pm
This is for those students who play guitar, bass, drums and vocals and want to play rock music in a variety of bands.
Rock school is orientated towards performance, working within the format of a band or act to develop performance skills, confidence, communication, and the stage skills necessary for a performing musician. In the process, students experience first-hand the intricacies of band dynamics, and naturally develop their own musical skills.
